College of Forestry emerita and Statistics alumna Manuela Huso received the highest honorary recognition an employee can receive within the U.S. Department of the Interior. She was awarded the Distinguished Service Award last fall for her "significant and highly impactful advancements in biological statistics and wildlife conservation ecology."
Huso led the creation of statistically robust estimators of wildlife fatalities associated with wind-energy development while accounting for uncertainty in how impacts of turbine collisions are monitored, and made these tools available for public use.
